Hi.. Ive had this error before and I’m again missing over half of the collected files…. If I remember it right it was because of tooooo many characters in total.

Now I have also collected from FCPX on Clip exporter so there are even more sequences… pre comps and files…

Using After effects 5.5 and mavericks on Mac… Can someone please tell me HOW have characters I am allowed from the first sequence to the last….. linked….. pre comp??? I need to transfer to another computer the WHOLE project please. and how would I know if I did COLLECT and have the whole lot… apart from using “missing” when I have transferred to another computer.

    Anita

    Thanks for all your help

I think that these collect files bugs have been fixed since CS5.5.

When Ae collects files, it creates a file folder structure parallel to your Ae project structure, so if you have lots of nested folders in your AEP, you’ll end up with lots of nested folders in your file system — and this contributes very quickly to those too-long file paths, especially if you have imported in other AEPs.

Alan Eddie’s Tidy Up script [link] can re-organize your project according to item type, and it’s a great way to shorten those nested items with long paths.

Yes, we addressed a huge number of bugs regarding special characters and limits on numbers of characters in the After Effects CC (12.0) release, and we’ve been removing the remaining limitations in subsequent releases. This helps not just with bugs in Collect Files but also in use of character sets from other languages in file names, etc.

I can change the seq names to short code of some sort… but would love to know what the bugs were? i.e is it only 256 characters .. or ??? characters or something else? from top tree to bottom pre comp… Anyone know? Then I can work around…. … thx
