Sides of a quarter
Posted by Dave Tavernier on April 14, 2005 at 8:20 pmHello fellow C$D dudes! Anyone know how to create the side of a coin, a quarter to be specific?
Thanks for your help!

April 14, 2005 at 11:23 pmside? Have an image only on one side? Use a poly selection to limit the texture for a side to that side. If that’s not what you mean, I don’t know…

April 15, 2005 at 1:38 pmSorry about that, I wasn’t very clear. What I meant by side was EDGE, I mean how do you create the edge of a quarter not the face’s of the coin but the edge of the coin. I hope you know what I mean… the indents in the edge of the coin.
Thanks,

April 15, 2005 at 5:21 pmThere are many ways of doing this effect, one way is to use a displacement map. The edges can be modeled as well. I whipped up a sample quarter that you can look at. The Texture maps come from https://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=photo#SQ2005
I can either email it to you, or post it on the forum after 5 my time. Figured that would be the easiest way of explaining it, sorry little time for a tutorial. But breaking the file apart should help figure it out. Hope that helps.
