    Hi there.

I have used the varicam shooting at 25fps,either outside or with controlled lighting.I now have a job shooting 29.97 with sometimes uncontrolled lighting(the gaffer is out of control most of the time anyway!)

And so some questions..rental house guy told me that when the camera is set to 30fps and the frequency to 59.94(as opposed to 60 Htz) the frame rate will become 29.97fps.Iam sure hes right but just wanted to check as there is no specific setting for 29.97fps.
In the film mode(Ive always been told that the picture is much better in this mode??) I noticed alot of flicker on flories which are 50Htz here.I could get rid of them with the scan function at 105 degrees shutter. Is this the best way to get around flicker? is there a standard shutter degree for 29.97fps. like 180 for 24/25.

When the shutter off mode does the camera default to 1/60?

Sorry if there are any really stupid questions here 😉

I like this camera, much less intimidating than the cineAlta, and much cheaper to rent!

If you have a good monitor you can adjust the Varicam shutter to find the flicker free “windows” just observe your shot and dial the flicker out. Unlike a film camera you will ssee it disappear. I recently shot a clip at 18FPS and we were able to adjust the shutter to 131.0 degrees. Also I believe there is an adjustment for drop frame code or non drop frame in the VTR main menu. Hold down menu for a few seconds then navigate to page 6.

    Ok thanks

Any ideas on my other questions,re frequency 59.94,making 30fps 29.97?

    Thanks again

Ah yeah, found it. Setting to 59.97 will make 29.97 Frame rates even if the frame rate setting is at 30FPS.

    Thanks again for the info.

I guess your Pal in NZ,but if I shoot 29.97(why cant the whole world be Pal 😉 I believe this is the drop frame rate of 30fps ?
Is it then necessary to change time code to drop frame, why have this function anyway?how is this different from the CineAlta that has a setting for 29,97?
Sorry for so many questions!!!! have to stay up late to watch the German F1 anyway! sad I know.
