    Hi.
I am having trouble with simple scrolling titles generated by FCPX- they shudder and look utterly shite on both my monitor and computer screen ( though worse on the monitor it seems).
My project is PAL DV 25i. I have tried a test export as a quick time and they look truly terrible.

Any ideas if this is : a Pal thing ( perhaps the scrolling doesn’t like PAL frames per second format? ),
or perhaps it is a scrolling in FCP thing…
    or something else?

In terms of using another application to make titles- I don’t have anything else but Photoshop and can not afford to buy more software at this stage. So I would really like the titles in FCPX to work for me. I also have to finish this film this week.

As always, I am indebted to your help and knowledge!
    Heidi

By monitor, I assume you’re looking at it on an interlaced external monitor? If so, it could be an issue with the field order so you might want to check that in the info pane for the title clip.

It can also occur if the font is too small, too thin, or an odd number of pixels high. You might try reducing the opacity of the title or adding a small amount (1-2 pixels) of blur.

If both of your preview screens are progressive then that’s more an interlaced vs progressive issue. An interlaced project is always going to look a little dodgy on modern screens depending on how good the deinterlacer is in whatever is playing the file.

You might also try rendering the title in the final deliverable format and see if the problem persists right through to the end.
