  • Should I upgrade the radeon rage 128 in my 466 G4?

My home machine, an old 466 G4 (digital Audio) has a radeon rage 128 pro card in it, with a total of 16mb VRAM (gasp!)

Believe it or not, the G4 runs FCP 4.0 fine. FCP 4.5 runs funky – I get a weird green screen with stills and some filters. I think maybe its the Radeon.

Given that a radeon 9200 is $110 (its my home machine so I’m not about to buy a new G5) do I gain any preformence with a new card?

    Thanks in advance,

    It’s not the card.
Dunno what might be causing your green tints but it’s not the card.
Easy to check, swap it out with an y other AGP card for G4. Don’t expect miracles if you decide to make the leap, FCP doesn’t have hooks into a graphics card like, say, Motion.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
