Should I recapture HDV footage thru Miranda HD-Bridge to DVCPRO HD codec?
I just embarked on my first HDV project…wow, what a workflow momentum killer!
I’m using FCP 5 on a dual 2G G5, but it’s still a slooooow process. I’m faced with the
question do I recapture 5 hours of HDV footage through Miranda’s HD-Bridge to
the DVCPRO HD codec via my Kona LH SDI input for more realtime editing functionality?
Or do I keep chugging along in the sluggish world of HDV?Would this scenario speed up the editing process?
Please help! We have a Tuesday deadline.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Jeff

One more thing…the footage was shot 1080i 60. Another question: Which Kona 1080i codec
should I use, 29.97 or 30?Thanks,

In a short deadline situation like yours I would be tempted to capture all of the footage through a Miranda bridge to the DVCPRO HD codec. Use a KONA preset for the, 59.94 1080i. (29.97 is 59.94).
If you do it this way you will get more RT and you will keep file sizes smaller.
Are you planning an online of this? If not then just go with the DVCPRO HD.
On longer projects I would stay in HDV until the thing is cut and then trnascode that footage to a 8 or ten bit uncompressed codec for the online.

Hi,
You can also bypass the Miranda altogether, and simply take the analog HD outs of your HDV camera/deck directly into the HD analog ins of the KONA LH, and digitze to DVCPRO-HD. A whitepaper on this can be found here:

My bad.
I read the post to quickly ad did not immediately realize it was the LH. The Miranda would work with a K2. I think AJA makes a version of this converter as well.
To think. I wrote and article on etiquette and then in one of my first posts back . I blow it!
