Should I have all my libraries open?
I just started using FCP X so I don’t have too many libraries. That said, is it a bad idea going forward? Does it take up memory? Should I close libraries I’m not using?

Not sure on the memory thing, but I close all Libraries I am not working on, just for ease in viewing and sorting. It’s your preference, but I really like the fact I can get rid of all things I am not working on.

I can pretty much guarantee that the more libraries you have open, the more you will kiss your editing performance goodbye. Not to mention it can become a visual mess. I might have five or six open in extreme cases but I close libraries at every opportunity.

Yep definitely you want to have only the currently working Library or Libraries open for optimal performance.
