Should I buy yet?

October 22, 2007 at 7:20 amHi everyone
Please don’t take post as cheeky, especially in light of the company owner being a contributor here, but…
I’m finally in a position to buy PI3 after years of using PI-SE for hobby work. My problem is this will be a one-off purchase with little possibillity of extra upgrade cash for a long while and I’m concerned that PI3.5 / PI4 is going to be released sometime soon.
Am I best hanging on for PI-next or bite the bullet and get 3 before Christmas? Is there going to be a free upgrade for recent purchasers and will I fall into that timeframe.

October 23, 2007 at 4:12 amSince the latest version 3.02 just came out last week, I think it’s safe to say that it will be a while before a major upgrade is released. Alan, the company owner is pretty forthright about when things are coming to a head.
So in short, I think you can go for it without real risk.
Plus upgrade pricing is usually very good.

October 23, 2007 at 8:02 amThanks Aaron. I was burned once quite badly by Adobe, so am always nervous when buying software now.
I think I’m going to go ahead. You know what its like, once you set your eyes on a new toy, all the old ones just don’t seem worth playing with anymore 🙂

October 23, 2007 at 11:43 amJust to confirm Aharon’s thoughts, it will be several months before 3.5 (the next planned paid upgrade) will be released — probably sometime around NAB (in April).
