March 8, 2013 at 11:25 pmI agree with both of you – but because of Raphael’s narrative work I still recommend going with some thing beyond 1080p. At the very least go for the 1D C which is less money than the c300 but does have 4k and allows him to use his current lenses etc.

Would having HD-SDI out allow you to record in higher level codec’s than what is provided in the c300? In other words, would future versions of external recorders future proof this and other current 1080 cams? I have by way of a much weaker example gotten more life out of HDV cams by using HD-SDI out to a Ki Pro.
Or are there limitations to the imaging chips and HD-SDI standards?

April 7, 2013 at 11:05 pmRemember the C300 has an internal 4K chip, it’s being down sampled to 1080p. The picture is killer.
If you use an external recorder from Atomos or wherever, you could get an even better image than internal compression, but what goes on the cards is very good indeed. It’s certainly enough for almost anything you do, outside of feature films.
I say this after having been a RED owner for years. The Canons are pretty whizzy, especially if you shoot in log (which, being a pro, you usually would). Shooting like you do- small crew- it’s a great option for you to go with C300.
Now the big question is, what’s Canon gonna unveil tomorrow at NAB?

Well hopefully not something that’s going to make me regret having bought the C300PL. I don’t need one of those “Why didn’t I wait??” moments.
I doubt that will happen, though… I love the C300 so much.

April 19, 2013 at 12:21 amInteresting no new Canon c-series. But yeah- I agree, the c300 is just… awesome. No need for anything else unless you’re doing something really different.

February 20, 2014 at 11:42 pmHi guys, I have just finished directing my first short film and am in the process of upgrading my website, show reel and kit. I’m interested to know if everybody still thinks the c300 is the best value around? I ask this because I might be setting up a studio with blue screen etc and want to know what the best choice would be for a three camera multicam set up.
