[Ron Craig] “But I’m wondering if the copies made by Shotput Pro are any better than the disk images that I’ve been creating with FCP’s Log & Transfer window. Any thoughts?”
Better? No. But Shotput Pro does a file verification…to make sure that EVERYTHING has been copied over. And it automates the making of folders to offload the cards, and automates the naming process. Plus, you now have the full card structure with a folder…so you can import right away. Disk Images need to be un-imaged in order to work, no? And then do they have a unique reel name, or are they NO NAME?
[Ron Craig] “But I’m not yet convinced that Shoput Pro’s results are better than making disc images.”
Shotput can copy one card to up to three locations all at once. So you can pop in the card, and press a button, and walk away as ShotPut does the rest…makes a folder, names it, copies the card…to two locations. So you can run back to the station, pop in the card, click a button, and get back to shooting. Less time spent managing the offload.
[Ron Craig] “But fidelity of copies is the more important issue to me.”
If you drag via the finder…make a disk image…or use ShotPut Pro…they all will be the same. None of those options degrades the image in any way. It is just a data transfer…a copying process.
