    Two newbie questions:

    1. I don’t need this so much for video tracks, though it would be nice, but since I have 9 tracks of audio in my sequence it is a bit of a pain having to use the mouse every time I want to put audio on a different track. I have set up keyboard shortcuts for my target audio & video tracks, and I am very happy with that, but no dice for the source track assignment. Any ideas?

    2. Every time I paste a lift or extraction from one sequence to another, the clip shows up in my project window. No big deal, I created a bin named ‘media’ and I dump everything in there every 15 minutes or so. But I would much prefer if PrPro would hide this function, or is there a way to assign a bin to dump this stuff?

And BTW, I have no need for duplicates of clips that I already have, I think FCP stopped creating these new master clips every time a clip is pasted somewhere around FCP 2. Why does PrPro do this?

In your keyboard shortcuts, under application (scroll all the way down by default), you’ll find track toggles. From there you can easily add a shortcut to select / deselect each track. You could use ALT + [Track #] for example.

Not that I can think of.

Thanks for that Vince. I have actually assigned toggles for video & audio target tracks, doing what you described, but I still have to use the mouse on the source box to the left of the target track boxes to assign what track the audio or video goes to. That’s what I would like to have as a shortkey.

It would be nice if Pr did that automatically. Why, if I want to put a sound effect on track 4 do I not only have to assign track 4 as a target track and also move the audio source icon to track 4?

No, unfortunately there is not easy way to apply a shortcut for source audio, although I’m now used to dragging and dropping. With at least 2+ channels of audio (P2), I never felt it was manageable through shortcuts, but it would be nice to be able to turn off the source feature for simple 3 point edits on mono / stereo footage.

    Happy 4th to you!

    Stephen….

this sounds like something similar to Avid’s auto patch feature.

    Would be nice.

    – Or on FCP, hold F7 or F8 down, then press a number for what track you want to assign the source to. Shortkeys are important, I try to avoid as much mouse work as possible, 10-12 hour days 7 days a week take their toll on the fingers and wrists.
Just a few functionality issues away from taking on the big two – CS5 already has the best workflow.
