Shortcut for Scrolling through footage
Posted by Ben Allan on February 26, 2017 at 3:01 amSo once you load a bunch of clips in the viewer is there way that you can scroll through the clips via a shortcut. As opposed to the drop down menu and clicking? I’m using Media Composer 7. Any help would be great thanks.

You can only have ONE item loaded in the viewer at one time…all the rest in that list is in what Avid refers to as the “history.” And you can’t scroll through a history.

February 26, 2017 at 9:07 pmA sort-of solution is creating a text file and dropping all your clips as though you were going to do script based editing. Then select the entire line(s) and clips and they will play through and go to the next. You can tab to go to next or shift-tab to reverse and it will keep playing.
The same can be done with selecting clips in the bin and selecting “loop play” in bin menu and the same tab behavior exists.

February 27, 2017 at 7:27 amRather than loading all the clips into the viewer window, make a sequence of all the clips, then load that into the viewer window and scroll through as fast or slow as you like.
Make the sequence by highlighting the clips you want in the order that you want them, making sure that you’re parked at the beginning of each, and have no in or out marks. Alt-drag those highlighted clips into the edit window, and that creates a sequence in the same bin that you dragged the clips from. Make sure the edit window is empty beforehand.
