  • Shooting/chroma keying with 5D with Technicolor picture style

First of all, I know with budget I shouldn’t use 5D to shoot chroma keying footage. It’s h264 compression not enough chroma sampling…I can have F3 I can have Alexa…yes.

But now i’m using 5D and going to shoot chroma key, and ran some test.
As technicolor picture style being too good for future post,
I tried it with chorma key,
and find it being much more blocky than normal.

Any suggestion about chroma keying with 5D?

You may want to check out dvgarage’s DVMatte Pro: https://www.dvgarage.com/dvmatte-pro

It was designed for working with 4:1:1 DV footage. I used it on one project with reasonable success. Never tried it with the 4:2:2 footage that comes out of a 5D camera….

One other thing to consider: if you’re shooting people standing up, you may want to rotate the camera 90 degrees and shoot sideways. That way you have more person and less green in the shot, which gets you more resolution, and thus a better final result.
