shooting with the HPX-3000
We’re shooting a short film this weekend and have been given the opportunity to shoot on the HPX-3000. This seems to be a great camera and we’re thrilled for the opportunity. The problem I’m having is that we’re not all that familiar with the codecs and settings available and want to maximize our shooting potential while minimizing the technical problems we’ll have both in shooting and in post.
I’m not even sure if the AVC-Intra codec is available yet for use as I’ve seen things about a release for this week. also, we were planning on shooting to our firestore (we shoot commercial projects on our HVX-200 so have a firestore handy), but are finding that this new codec is not available on the firestore.
I’d like some help in knowing how to maximize what this camera can do for us. Is this new codec worth us renting P2 cards for and working out a new work flow? (we have a G4 laptop available for bringing in the P2 cards, but have not tested this method.)
If we don’t switch to the P2 cards, what is the best format for us to shoot this camera on provided that we’re going to finish on video? I understand there are two 24p formats; one that is better for going to film and one that is better for finishing on video.
The film itself is a pretty straightforward drama and has a real film style to it rather than anything high tech or requiring specialized approaches.
Does anyone have any specific recommendations so that I don’t under-utilize this opportunity?
