Shooting in Wind
I’ve shot in plenty of conditions and obviously wind is the most challenging. I’m going to be shooting on the beach shortly after the current hurricanes pass and I’m expecting a substantial amount of wind. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as ways to block the wind from the on board mic while shooing?

I would use a Rycote Softie sized for your particular mic. But even that may not help much. It seems most people are using the RE-50 hand-held mic in those situations; you may have to use that for both interviews and as your nat sound mic.

you don’t mention what camera you are using. Most on board camera’s are only any use for capturing some surrounding ambience, but no real use in the real world because of their limitations. The onboard mic picks up the sound of the auto irus, the lens zoom servo and even your own hands clicking switches and adjusting the tripod. whenever possible, use a shotgun mic mounted on a proper noise isolating camera mount. Then make sure you put a good wind sock on it. When its windy, disarm the onboard mic and just use the shotgun. You can film in a gale this way.
