I have an upcoming world-wide project that will take me to Europe to shoot. Any suggestions on dealing with 50hz natural light locations? I wanted to shoot the entire project in 720p30 for ease of editing and the look, but should I consider 60i or 24fps which is closer to the EU power of 50hz?

In the past, I’ve shot BetaCam over there, I brought 230watt bulbs for my tungsten light kit which has no flicker and just set the shutter to 100hz and it took out almost all the 50hz flicker of the house lights.

If I shoot 30p or 60i, can I use the shutter in the 900 to do the same? How have some of you worked around this?

At 24fps in a 50hz country you need to use a 172.8 degree shutter, or 1/50th of a second. The HDX 900 can set the shutter to 1/50th using synchro scan. This should work out fine at 30fps as well. The other option of course is to shoot 25fps at half shutter which of course works out to 1/50th shutter speed.

    Have fun,
