    Hi cows,
I have to shoot from an helicopter but possibly without zooming.
I’ll shoot with a Panasonic DVX100B.I read some post about HDV camera user’s who had trouble having a clear image.
Is someone know if i can have stables images with the OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer)from DVX100B?
I can use a Steadicam JR. I won’t be able to redo my shot as it’s really expensive.
Anyone can help with good advice?
Sorry if my english is poor…
    thank you!

Thank you Dave but I’m not paying for the Helico, my client is paying for because he have to take aerien information about the forest, I will take this chance to take footage from the air. I don’t care about having a little moving giving the feeling we’re in an helicoter.
I want to know if it’s possible to do it with a DVX100B and a steadycam JR or if it will be a complete catastrophe. It will be my first shooting from the air is it worth trying like this or will I loose my time?
    Thanks,
    MC

I’ve shot out of helicopter once, but rented a tripod/support system that was designed specifically for that use. I think it was about $1000 to rent, but well worth it. It was mounted so I could sit with my feet resting on the ‘copter skids. The camera and the mount worked as one, with the ability to control focus and zoom from the hand mounts. I couldn’t find it in Google, but I didn’t look that hard.

If possible, use a french made AIRSTAR helicopter with three rotor blades. Two bladed copters tend to go from side to side as the rotors turn. A three bladed copter is much steadier. Bell Rangers are 2 blade, as are all of the Robinson and Rotorway choppers. If you can stay around 500 feet high, that will help. Shoulder mount is OK if you are moving. Hovering is more shaky. The more zoom, the more shake.

If you have the door open, tie yourself in really good. Tape your belt buckle. Have fun.

    Good luck!
