Got a unique shoot next week. Half of the shoot is for PAL, the other half is for NTSC. Due to the nature of the shoot, I won’t have time change frame rates. I need to shoot one frame rate for both uses. So the question, what is the best frame rate to shoot? 24? 25? What is the best workflow for getting to PAL?

Its a little different but stuff I have shot for nat geo with F900 that would eventually need a PAL version and an NTSC version, they requested 23.98p
Apparently this was an easy frame rate to get an NTSC,and a PAL version from. And that 30p/29.98/25/straight 24p were for some reason NG.

If you are editing in pal country/ environment shoot 25p.
If you are editing in NTSC land shoot 23.98.

We have been watching USA/Europe Europe/USA off speed programmes for decades without suffering.

If the programmes have to have identical running lengths then you’ll need a standards converter to merg or add frames, in this scenario audio is not effected.
If programme does not have to have a specific running time then simply playout the 23.98 at 25p with a audio pitch change and make a 25p master.

If you are shooting music then the off speed solution can get up the nose of muscians.
