  • Shooting DV on JVC’s HDV cameras

We just rented a GY-HD100U; we shot some DV footage on it and tried to play it back on our Sony DV deck (a DSR-45). The footage didn’t play back well. It had tape errors and dropouts on it.

So, I’m wondering if the newer JVC HDV models work better: the GY-HD200U and the GY-HD250U. Has anyone shot DV footage on them and played them back in a Sony deck?

My little production company went 2 1/2 years using JVC cams (GY-DV5000U) and Sony decks (DSR-30) without a hiccup so it’s not a JVC-Sony thing. Now we use HD200’s with JVC’s deck but I’ve played the DV footage in the DSR-30 withoug issue.

If I were you I’d just rent a firestore with the camera. Renting a mini-DV camera (any brand) is kind of a recipe for disaster becuase of mixed tape issues. The heads are so fickle that just changing tape brands throws them off. I’m talking about all DV cameras here.

We’re using the JVC 110u and there is no issues with shooting DV on it and playing back on a Sony device.

This is good to hear. We plan on getting the 200u but that is a good sign.
