  • Shooting at 23.98 but captures at 29.97…why?

Just curious as to why, when I capture my footage from my Canon HV40, the clips’ settings are telling me it’s 29.97 when I know it’s 23.98. I shot the footage on HDV 24F mode. My capture settings are as follows:

    Photobucket

Everything seems to play fine but is this something that will make my footage “look” different in the end?

    I think you’re recording a fake 24p.

    or

You need to do a standard pull-down removal in Cinema Tools

I was under the impression that the HV40 shoots 24P natively, therefore no pulldown is needed.

Ah nevermind. Just read that there are 2 different 24P modes on that camera and that one would require a pulldown while the other would not. I shot my stuff with the mode that would require a pulldown

I know this is true of Panasonic cameras, but don’t know if the nomenclature holds for other cameras. 24P means 24 frames per second in a 29.97time base (ie. pulldown added). 24PN means only 24 frames (23.076) are recorded each second. 24PA is like 24P, except there are flags present which allow the pulldown to be easily removed upon injest to FCP.
