  • Shoot Vertical or crop? 5D to ipad

    Hi Everyone,

I’m shooting for an iPad only magazine and they want video in a vertical format (whatever the ipad is when you hold it vertically.) I was planning on taping off the lcd and cropping in post so I would be able to use the footage in my reel, but is this a bad idea? If it’s only for the ipad, the resolution would still be totally sharp and nice if I’m using 1/3 of the image, right? And I know this will significantly reduce my focal length. But is there any reason I should shoot vertically? I assume if the 5d mark ii footage I have seen on a movie screen looks that good, there should be no problem optimizing a cropped horizontal image to the specs of the ipad’s vertical dimensions. Am I missing anything? Please advise and thanks!
