Shining Citidisk…
Posted by Paul Chiappini on November 14, 2005 at 11:26 pmFYI,
I just received an email from https://www.shining.com/
They will be releasing a version of their Citidisk for the HVX-200. It looks to be more economical than other external HD solutions.
Has anyone had experience with their products?
Thanks,

November 15, 2005 at 2:50 amReceived another message from them — haven’t determined pricing yet. I hope it’s comparable to their DV and HDV products.

November 18, 2005 at 11:24 pmHi,
I am going to direct this back to Paul. I have been over to the City website, and I find nothing that confirms that they will be supporting DVCPRO HD. Do you have a specific link?
Best,
jan

[Harry] “Does anyone have any further news about availability/release/pricing?”
Oops, sorry, I forgot to say something about this. When I talked to Jan about this, she said that Panasonic hasn’t heard word one from this company about their doing a companion product to the P2 camcorders, so it looks like Paul or his source jumped the gun and we shouldn’t expect anything very soon if at all. She did mention another similar company who is in contact with Panasonic but the name escapes me.

November 18, 2005 at 11:55 pmI emailed Shining via an email link on their website (cwang@shining.com). Received the following response:
“Current CitiDISK HDV would only work for DV50 mode, we are working on the DV100 support for HVX200 now.”
Their pricing on current products looks to be much better than other companies.

Was it nNovia perhaps? I’ve heard nothing but great reports about the nNovia QuickCapture, so if they’re developing a product for the HVX that would be most interesting.
Shining may have low prices, but I haven’t heard too many positive reports about the product reliability. They OEM the CitiDisk under other brands, including the ADS Pyro Drive and the MCE QuickStream. There were a flood of negative reports about the QuickStream when it first came out. I’ve shied away from any Shining product since then; if they’ve got a good handle on QC then their pricing will be most tempting, but if the reliability issues aren’t sorted out then it wouldn’t be a good idea no matter how low the price is.

Gosh, I don’t know. I suppose it could have been, but I’m afraid I was thinking of something else by then. Sorry
