  • Shifting issue with Quicktime Reference!!!!!

Posted by Wayne M on August 16, 2007 at 7:07 pm

I have an issue in which whenever a graphic with an alpha comes on, the screen seems to shrink a bit and gets a little darker.
This is only seen when I create a Quicktime Reference.

It doesn’t matter what it is…It’s when anything is keyed over a background. It can be footage, an animation (like a jumpback or AE MOV) or even a still image (like a PSD ot PNG.)

This is a link to a wmv I made showing this issue. HELP!!!!!

    Thanks

    Do 1 of 2 things.

-Mixdown your sequence (or just the portion with the key)

-Lay a submaster effect on the clip you want to key, and step into it. Lay your graphic down. Render to play.

Are you mixing a DV resolution with a non DV resolution (ie Dv 25 and 1:1?) The shift can be caused when you mix the two. Also what is your Effect Aperture set to in General settings (DV 720×480 or NTSC 720×486?) If you have your effect aperture set to DV and then create a graphic at 1:1 which is 720×486 that causes a shift because of the 6 scan line difference. I have had this happen when editing footage at DV25 and importing a Jumpback with the import resolution set to 1:1. If you are using DV25 footage I suggest using DV50 for imports and other graphic elements and setting your aperture to DV.

I worked with Avid for over 2 years on this bug. Not until I spoke the Avid’s general manager at NAB did the issue get fixed 2 weeks later.

You must be trying to mix 1:1 titles with DV footage.

They fixed their DV codec so you need to make sure that is checked when you do an export.

    Hope that helps.
