    hey all.
thought i made a post about this around midnight last night, of course i was so tired that i have no clue as to whether or not i actually posted it.

    anyways.
ae gurus, i need some help.

i am currently working on a commercial for a client, and he wanted the logo to explode at the bookend of the commercial.
(basically for a Grand Opening ad)

so i automatically think, shatter effect (using 6.5 not sure what versions it comes in)
but anyways, i was playing around with some paramaters and saw that i can create a comp cam, and rotate around the shatter effect in 3d space.

so i was thinking, it would be cool to pause it mid-explosion and do a 360 camera rotation.

but, can’t seem to get it.

i have tried time remapping, but i suck at it.
so maybe thats the problem, but it looks like the effect cant be time remapped.
so can anyone help me out?

i really would appreciate any/all input as well as an answer to this question.
i have included a link to a rough render, so if you can help me out.. please do so ASAP!

if you need the actual project file, let me know and i can upload that too so you can take a look around.
hope to hear from you guys soon!

    hey dave,
sorry i tried doing what you said…

    didnt seem to work out…

is there something you can point out from the screenshot?
you said grav. and visc. params, and still no luck.

this is what im working with now
    (screenshot: https://www.fvm2.com/test.jpg )

what should the keyframes be tweaked to if i want the stop to start at say, frame 10?
and end around a second later?

thanks for your patience, i know how to keyframe the camera in there, but i cant seem to get the explosion from pausing

    thanks again!
    anyone else with help?
    thnx

I copied this from an earlier post regarding the same issue:

The best way to stop or slow down the Shatter is to increase the viscosity. Set a key-frame for viscosity (thickness of the air) at the point you want the shatter pieces to freeze. Now move up around 5 frames and increase the viscosity to 3 or so (the default is .40). You have essentially made the atmosphere like maple syrup so the speed of the pieces will slow down dramatically. Now make your camera move. Tell shatter to use a comp camera and then parent the camera to a 3D null and key-frame the Y rotation.

If you want your shatter to continue after the camera rotates to its new position, you’ll need to re-activate it with Force 2. Just key-frame the radius from 0 to whatever it takes to blast out the pieces again. Set the strength to 10 or so.

Sorry if i’m missing the point, but what’s wrong with using Time Remapping? I’ve often nested my shatter comp in another comp and time remapped the result. And of course, the big benefit is that you can stop. Also, if you’re wanting to use the comp’s 3D camera, in the past i’ve just copied it from one comp into the other and used it twice.

I swear there was a tutorial here at the Cow showing how to do this (not wanting to get dragged into the other thread) but i can’t find it.

I got this to work pretty well…but is there a way to make the Shatter effect more explosive? It just seems like it initially takes off kinda slowly…I’ve played with some of the parameters, but didn’t notice much difference.

I normally have my force1 set at -5 (position), until i need the shatter then i bring it up to 0.1, i get quite a good impact. although even that can be slow at times.

Another method might be to try use a real explosion (stock footage etc.) as a gradient.

Artbeats is the supplier of choice, but i use VCE.com as i’m on a tight budget for that sort of thing.
