I have Zoom recordings for interviews, for a super-low-budget video. The images are of course very soft.

Of Resolve Studio’s three filters, “Sharpen and Soften” looks the best, but it is still pretty crude.

Has anyone used Topaz for this kind of very low-res source material?

    Thanks.

    Two more questions:

    1. Is there an alternative to Topaz which you can recommend? I just ran across “HitPaw Video Enhancer,” and the free preview looks pretty good.

    2. We’re using Zoom simply because the interviewees are comfortable with it. Is there an alternative to Zoom, for people who have no inclination to load software on their end?

    Thanks again!

I use Topaz AI and I find the ability of the software to both sharpen and de-noise and de-artifact compression very useful. I’ve been cleaning up a six part TV series that was shot 23 years ago on the Sony F1 using HDV codec. It’s certainly impressive enhancement and looks natural.

    Echo Michael on Topaz.

I am currently taking a 4:3 PAL Betacam SP interview from 2002 up to 1920/1080 full screen – the results are impressive.

However, no amount of Topaz, or any of the other software/plug-in packages out there, can make up for a bad virtual meeting recording.

On first impression, HitPaw Video Enhancer ($42.99 down from $85.99 for a 1-month subscription, or $349.99 for lifetime down from $699.99) .
Is more expensive to run than Topaz ($299.00 buy-out + often has 25% discount offers around holidays etc), or many of the other tools.

    Alternatives to consider:

BorisFX have added A.I. sharpening to their Continuum suite.

VideoProc Converter A.I. is the one to beat in price – although A.I. features are currently Windows only. But claims to be optimized for NVidia.
I have several of their other products, which often helps me out of a tight spot.
Mightydeals are currently offering it at the low price of $25.95 with lifetime upgrades:

    Go figure 😀

Should add, that if you have WinXConverter from Digiarty on a life-time purchase, I’ve just found that I got a free upgrade to their latest A.I. version.

It does not appear to have as much functionality as the VideoProc Converter (also with life-time upgrades).
