    Compared to simply using the unsharp mask in Premiere or After Effects, the Blur-Sharpen tool in Resolve seems extremely crude, at least to me.
    Can anyone suggest any sharpening strategies in Resolve, to approximate what can be done using unsharp masking?

    Splitting the luma and chroma will give you better results. Although the tutorial below is for NR, it applies to sharpening as well:
