Share to Blu Ray is just making drink coasters, walk me thru proper procedure?
I’m on a fully updated Yosemite and FCPX imac. Got an external Blu Ray drive attached via USB. My 2-minute sample reel is on the FCPX timelne, I choose share>Blu Ray. I check the preferences there, I set it to open to a menu, and to activate the loop button function, black background. I press the OK button, watch progress bars, and FCPX doesn’t burn direct to my blank BD media. Instead, it’s burning a disk image. I’m game: I drag the disk image to the black BD icon on my desktop, and ok the burn. I put the finished disk in a Commercial Toshiba BD player, and it will not load.
All I want is a simple 2-minute play-once BD. This has not been a problem making DVD’s using another drive connected to the same imac.
What do you guess is going wrong, or, walk me thru how YOU do it, using the same setup within FCPX… Don’t talk to me of external applications, ain’t got none. I have FCPX and Compressor, latest versions.

If you are creating an image file, you need to burn it using Disk Utility. Dragging the file to the BD icon is just burning a copy of the image file in the disk.
Alternatively, set FCPX to burn direct to your external drive.

Choose share to blu-Ray, then under settings, the first drop down is labelled output device. Choose your drive and burn…. Or at least, that’s how it works for me.

Yeah, that’s what I did and expected; only, it never activated a burn, just rendered a file to the hard drive.

OK Jeff, gave it a burl, used the disk utility to burn the image and it plays just bonzer now on the commercial player, “fair dinkum”, so to speak:-)
But I still don’t understand why it doesn’t just work the same direct way as when I ask it for a DVD burn.

It’s the weirdest thing, but just now, I asked FCPX to burn me an additional BluRay and this time it did the whole thing as I originally expected it to. My only guess is, it has to do with whether or not you put the blank media in before or after you tell it to burn.
