Shape morph from closed to open shape
Hi everyone in the Creative Cow community! I’m working on a logo animation for my portfolio but I’m completely stuck, I don’t have any idea how to create one particular Shape Morph effect, perhaps there is an alternative (obviously unknown to me) to cleanly transition from one shape to another.
I traced a flat version of the Doritos logo in Illustrator and imported it into AE, created the outlines from the AI vector data, and animated the yellow “Dorito” triangle to deploy itself starting from the center of the second O, basically, I want to make it seem as if the yellow Dorito triangle “breaks” the two O letters as it crosses them and a tear/rip effect is created in the two O letters.
On Illustrator, I created two versions of each O letter, one (before) with the complete, closed O shape and the other (after) where the O is broken, open, and torn. I already tried using a basic shape morph technique which is copying the path keyframe with the info from the second (broken) O to the first one, but the transition looks completely weird. I think the reason could be because the first O is composed of two paths (internal and external O shape) and the second one just one path.
Does anyone have an idea on an alternative solution to give it a cool transition from one shape to another? Any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated, Thank you!
