Shadows and Strobe lights
I am fairly new to AE and am looking for a bit of guidance. I’m trying to have an image in the dark appear like a flash. I’m trying to make it look like something in the dark can only be seen when lightning strikes. Thanks in advance

Find a ref video/image.
It’s usually a few frames of something then black.
Can be a reflection, caught in a moonbeam, any practical light including lightning.
Really need an example to help break it down.

So you only want to see the image when there’s a lightning flash or you want to have a black image there all the time, but only see it properly when there’s a lightning flash?
Simplest way:<div>
- Get your image and apply the Tint effect
- Set the “Set White to” to black. Evetything in the image will now be black
- On a new solid, use the Advanced Lightning effect and trim the layer so it only shows up for a few frames
