  • Shadow/Highlight filter causing flicker

    I’m using PP 6.0.0 on OS X 10.7.4

    I’m editing a project with DSLR 1080p 30p footage in a 4:3 sequence (1440×1920).

I’m using the Shadow/Highlight filter on several clips; however, it causes flicker on several of the shots – both in the program monitor and in the exported file. I’m not using the automatic setting on any of the clips.

This appears to be the same issue discussed in a thread six years ago which is disconcerting since it was so long ago and possibly hasn’t been fixed yet: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/864700#864705

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi Patrick,

I haven’ t used that particular filter in years, but I would advise against any automatic settings, they can easily be put off track by another plug in, or noise, etc. It was the case for auto levels.

As an alternative, try the three way color corrector, you’ll find shadow/highlights and many more settings.

I suspect some of the more more obsolete filters in Premiere rarely get much attention these days.

    Thanks for the response.

I’m not actually using any automatic settings. I sincerely hope Adobe hasn’t simply abandoned a filter and left it in broken. I’d like to know I can count on the filters they’ve included. And besides, I kind of like the Shadow/Highlights filter, I feel that it’s unique and does things that the color corrector can’t quite replicate.

    I figured it out.

Make sure there is no video BELOW the clip being effected, and the flicker magically disapears. You can also just “de-enable” all the clips below, or insert a slug. BOOM!

The most accurate answer (and simple as hell) that I found on the internet. Thanks man!
