    Hi guys,
I’ve got a sequence in AE5 where I’ve got a photo that floats down from above the camera and lands on a table. The first version I made was put together in 3D space for a draft.

I’m now trying to use Freeform (bundled with AE version) to slightly bend the layer so it looks a little more realistic and have managed to parent the position controls in freeform so it animates down as it should – but I have no shadow!

I know that 3D type effects generally do not have proper 3D interaction and indeed this plug is only applied to a 2D layer, but does anyone have a decent tip for faking it? Or a better plugin?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Will

A better plugin would be FreeForm Pro, but for your project you do not need that. You can use various plugins to fake shadows, and even a duplicated blurred layer with a Bezier or Mesh Warp applied to it for distortion. From the plugins I know, the Shadow that comes with Warp from Red Giant is the best:
