Ok, I’m going to try to explain this because I have no way to show it. I have an animation of some figures walking through a desert. It’s the same figure duplicated a bunch of times. I want to add a shadow to these figures to give the feel of light coming from a certain direction. Any idea how I could add a shadow to them? I have the original character in it’s own comp. I suppose I would add it there but nothing seems to be working. Suggestions are appreciated.

    thanks

    Have you tried this?

Duplicate the layer. On the layer below Render > Fill, the Distort > Corner Pin
and move the corners until the shadow falls the way you want.

You can do the same with Perspective > Drop Shadow(or Radial Shadow) and the
Shadow Only checked, then do Corner Pin again, and with these you can soften the shadow (Softness).
It takes some tweaking, but works pretty well. As a related effect you can use the first, but without fill to cast reflections, as in a pool of water, just pull a duplicate layer around with corner pin and drop the opacity way down (20-30 percent).

Red Giant has a super shadow plugin “Real Shadows” in it’s Image Lounge, but it a bit of money.

Great idea yikes, I never thought of putting the Corner Pin to it. I create a lot of shadows myself and what I just do, is simply by duplicating my keyed footage, apply the Drop Shadow on it, in the Effects Palette, check ” Shadow Only “, make it a 3D layer, put it on the ground, play with the softness and the Opacity a lill’ bit.

    Both ways are good 🙂

Excellent. Thank you. The corner pin worked wonders.
