Should I get rid of them like with sfk files?
    If yes, how?
    If not, what are they?
    Thanks.

Sweeper tool from Vegasaur will do it.
Or you can do it manually – select the files in Windows Explorer and hit Delete key 🙂

[Joao Souza] “Vegasaur is not free.”

The VASST FASSTApp MediaTool can do this and it’s only $9.95 USD. Still not free but closer. 😉

You can get rid of them if you like, but the next time you open the project in Vegas, they will be recreated. They are tiny files – just ignore them.

Audio proxies are not always small and sometimes they are orphaned by deleting the original media. That’s why VASST MediaTool has an option to just remove orphaned files to clean up the mess that Vegas Pro left behind keeping the ones you need. 😉

When you start with one or two tB of disk space, a few Mb isn’t large (even though my programming career started when we were examining every byte of code for redundancy so that the program would fit on a 256kB EPROM).

But I can see them as a nuisance when your project gets pretty complex.

Perhaps my workflow make it a non-issue here because I routinely delete those files when I archive a project.

I do agree that Sony could do a whole lot better job with handling the temporary files. An option to delete on exit, to delete when the parent file is not in the Project Media list (a double-lightning bolt icon?) or put them into a sub-folder (tmp) of the project folder.
