  • Severe loss of details when exporting

    Hi,

I hope this hasn’t been talked through a million times before. If so just direct me where I belong…

I attached two images showing a title page for a movie I’m currently editing. I simply added a back vignette on a dark gray background which gives us tiny color gradient. But, unfortunately, all this is gone after exporting.

I’m using 5D footage, turned Prores, and expored the whole thing to h.264, which, as far as I’m concerned, shouldn’t result in any of quality loss whatsoever…

Why do I loose so many details and what can I do about it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ludwig

    Thats what Premiere shows me:

Thats what I got after exporting to h.264:

(I guess it’s not the exact same frame of my movie. So don’t be distracted by any differences on the filmstrip-overlay)

Are you going h.264 .mp4 or .mov?
At what data rate are you encoding?
    Have you tried upping it?

Also…what is the original frame size and the target frame size?

If that math is weird, it could definitely cause issues with such a small, lightweight font.

    Chris,

    I am going for .mov.

I sorted it out meanwhile. All I did was checking “Render at Maximum Depth” and “Use Previews”? Now its all fine. Not sure which one made the difference, though. Would be glad for any hint and any background regarding my initial question.
Am I running danger to loose information when using previews? I used the “DSLR” preset for my sequence settings…(prores footage, exported to h264 mov)

    Thx

Yes, do not use Preview Files if the Preview file format is I-frame only mpeg

As Ann has mentioned, I wouldn’t use the “Use Previews” for final export quality, definitely tick the “Max Render” if you are exporting to a different dimension scale than what the edit is in originally.
