Setup 12-core with Q-master
Posted by Rusty Shackleford on May 26, 2011 at 8:27 pmI got a 12-core, very excited.
What’s the best way to setup Q-master to use all 12 cores?Brandon Morris

May 26, 2011 at 10:42 pmYou won’t want to use all 12 cores, from what I’ve read the rule of thumb is about half the number of cores you have. You also want to make sure you have 1GB of ram per core.

May 26, 2011 at 10:59 pmWhat about the no. of threads? It says 24, so I should only use 12 threads?

May 27, 2011 at 1:38 amTo be honest, I’m not sure. I’ve only ever adjusted the number of cores. Here is an article on it. https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/compressor_multi_cores_stitzer.html

May 27, 2011 at 11:03 pmIs it worth using other networked computers’ cores?
Don’t they take longer bc it’s pulling the content to render from the main computer that is rendering as well?Brandon Morris

May 29, 2011 at 3:27 amI haven’t used other networked computers, but I that may be more trouble than it is worth. I have read that Qmaster can be shaky, sometimes my virtual cluster shows up, sometimes it doesn’t.
