  • settings for HDV from Premeire Pro CS3 to DVD

I am having trouble trying to figure out what settings to use to create a DVD from my HDV footage. It looks so much worse in DVD than when I view the original footage. The aspect ratio is different too. I create a project using the 1080i HDV settings. So starting with a time line should I create an exported mov, then import into encore. I am exporting 1280 x 720 square pixels when I do this. Or is there a better way. It’s a SD DVD, not blu ray but I want the same aspect ratio. Is that possible. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Scott,

Older versions of Premiere have an issue creating DVD material from HD sources. The conversion just doesn’t come out very well. There are workarounds to improve the quality. Keep in mind that DVD resolution is 720×480 – the 1280×720 resolution you mentioned is for 720p HD. CS4 has a “High Quality” checkbox in the encoder which provides better results at the expense of (lots of) time, but no such button in CS3.

Perhaps the tips in this blog post will help you out –

CS3 does not do a great job in converting HDV to SD.
