Settings for exporting media: 23.976fps vs 25fps
Hello,
I have a 2-min video sequence in Premiere Pro CC which is mostly comprised of 23.976 fps video shot on Canon DSLRs, timelapse footage put together using LRTimelapse and some 50fps / 60fps aerial video footage from a DJI Inspire 1 quadcopter that I pulled down to 24fps in Premiere.
I am rendering at Maximum Depth and using the Maximum Render Quality.
My “Format” for export is H.264, but I’ve been playing around with different Presets, with the below results:
a) HD 1080p 23.976fps: some of the aerial footage is visibly jerky;
b) HD 1080p 25fps: whole video is smooth;
c) Match Source – High bitrate: within the “Video” sub-menu, 25fps has been automatically selected by Premiere as the Frame Rate. Video is smooth;
So I guess my question is as follows: if the majority of my source footage was 23.976fps (and I’ve kept that frame rate the same), why does exporting with that exact frame rate not give me the best end result? The exported .mp4 file appears smoother to me at 25fps than it does at 23.976fps – colour me confused 🙂
Cheers,
Patrick
