setting up my G5 question…
I have a mac pro G5 and I’m using the four interanl HD bays in a RAID 0 configuration. My question is what can I use for my 5th HD, which will have my OS and other various programs, without degrading speed on it? An external enclosure utilizing the firewire 800 connection? The internal optical port? I just want to know the best way to maintain the best performance on it since its what i will be using for everyday use. Thanks

What kind of drive is it ATA or SATA? if SATA, I’d suggest an additional and inexpensive SATA card and enclosure… it’s faster than FW would be. As far as I know, it will be as fast as had it been one of the internal SATAs… otherwise, you’ll need to use FW 800 if it’s an ATA type drive.

Thanks Jerry – As an Apple certified trainer do you recommend a particular SATA card and enclosure? Should I worry about heat?

I don’t have first hand experience, but the old main players here should be just great… weibetech or Granite digital sell first rate gear.
Speed tests are done at https://www.barefeats.com might check there… faster’s better IMHO… any enclosure will be cooled enough from either of these companies.
