I’ve connected a 17in MBP and with a 27in apple cinema monitor. The MBP is topped out at 1920 x 1200 resoluton. The 27in display goes all the way to 2560 x 1440. I’d like to mirror the two displays but when I do I lose about an inch left and right on the 27 inch display.

If I set up the second display unmirrored, set each display at their own “proper” resolution then I run into another problem when I want to take the MBP on the road and edit with FCP – missing windows like the canvas. I guess final cut thinks they are on the 2nd monitor.

Is there a way to mirror these and make use of the full display area on the 27 inch?

I found a solution digging on line after a while. Just make the 27 inch my primary monitor by dragging the bar to the other monitor in Display/preferences. That was easy. Man, this 27 inch monitor sure is easy on the eyes and the extra real estate is heavenly.

By definition if you mirror the screens they have to be the same. Since the MBP cannot go up in resolution the 27″ has to come down.

YOur MBP should reset itself with the other monitor is missing but FCP may not. Control-u resets the windows to the default layout.

Thanks very much for the “control U” tip Michael. That makes things a whole lot easier!
