    Hi All,

I’m putting together a budget for an edit suite at a college I volunteer for.

I work on FCP for a living but feel this may be a bit pricey and was wondering whether Sony Vegas would be a more cost efficient as the college works on PCs.

I’m basically trying to find out how much a Sony Vegas package would be capable of editing with XDcam EX / DV / Canon 7D and possible P2. It also needs to be able to produce DVDs. And how powerful the PC should ideally be?

Any suggestions or advice would be great.

    Thanks, Matt

The Sony Vegas Pro package comes with DVD Architect for creating DVDs. Sony Vegas 9 has XD Cam support, and for a $100, you can buy a plugin called Raylight that will allow you to import P2 files.

I think most schools can also get educational discounts. You might try https://www.creationengine.com, or just google ‘academic discounts sony vegas’
