Setting up a system for the first time!
As first time Mac users we are setting up an editing system. The plan is to buy the basic MacPro 8 core, 2GB Ram, NVideo GeForce 8800 GT, one internal system hard drive, wireless card, Mac/Apple Care, Final Cut Studio2, AJA LHe and one of the Dell UltraSharp WFP 2407 or 2707 monitors. We will then buy 8GB of RAM from OWC and 2 or 3 Seagate 750 32MB 7200 SATA drives to install internally.
We will be installing FC2 and Adobe CS3 production edition on this system.
In the future an affordable external SATA RAID (Maxx) will be purchased.
We are on a tight budget and attempting to set this up ourselves. So I have a few basic questions…
1. Any problems using the WFP 2707 monitor in this setup? Any issues with the LHe and the 2707?
2. Which operating system OS version should I have installed? Any problems with this setup and Leopard?
3. I have a number of older SCSI drives about 6 ranging from 20 – 80 GB each. Is it advisable to try and integrate these or will a SCSI card and these older drives in this system cause us grief?
4. I’m a novice at this… is what I want to do straight forward or is an integrator or a technical advisor hired by the hour the right way to go?
Thanks in advance, your help will be much appreciated.
