  • Setting up a Sony PVM-1450QM monitor in OS X Yosemite

I’ve hit a wall trying to connect a PVM-1450QM Sony monitor to my iMac. I’m using an sdi to vga cable that I connect to the computer with a vga to mini displayport adapter. The computer recognised a second monitor but the smallest resolution option I’m getting is 800×600, meaning I had to create a custom one with SwitchresX. Something obviously went wrong and crashed the OS and continues to do so even after removing the app and it’s system pane/preferences.

Am I even able to get the right resolution set up for the monitor and therefore making this dual display work?

You have an NTSC TV set that cannot display the hi resolutions of modern computers. Splurge and go out and get a computer monitor for $120 bucks, and you will be ok.

If you want to see VIDEO playback on this TV monitor, you need a converter box from a company like AJA or Blackmagic that will allow you to display on your old TV monitor.
