    Hi guys,

Sorry for such a naive question. I’m new to the setting up of a brand new Mac Pro for editing with FCP 7. I’m going with the

Mac Pro 3.33GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor
    16GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB graphic card

Do I need to install a blackmagic capture card (intensity pro)? What else should I include in my shopping list if I need to edit in FCP 7 and After effect? I’ll probably have a external 2TB HDD for starters, and might upgrade to a bigger HDD in the future.

    Thanks in advance.

This is for an in-house production department. It is used for editing HD commercials for the company, eventually branching out to produce and edit HD commercials for other companies.

Thanks very much for your advise. As I have to edit a 30″ commercials very soon, I don’t have time to learn the new FCP X, I’m more familiar with FCP 7, and hence will be much faster when editing. I’ll have FCP X installed as well, just as a backup and to learn how to use it. And I’ll need to use After Effect for the job, so I guess I’ll have to go for FCP 7 for the time being.

Thank you very much, Dave. Your advise helps a lot, I’ll keep that in mind. It’s a shame that Apple had chose to release FCP X as it did, don’t know why there’s such a drastic change! I guess I’ll have to learn Premier Pro and ditch FCP in the future.

I’m getting a blackmagic capture card, but the monitor will not be included in the shopping list this time, due to budget issue. But I’ll definitely fight for one in the future. Thanks for reminding me.
