  • Setting RGB channel colour in transparent areas

When saving a still frame as a PNG where there is a transparent background (as in the first image below) is there a way to set the colour of the RGB channel in the transparent area?

By default After Effects always seems to save the image with black in all transparent areas (as in the the second image below), but I need the image to set the background colour to be the colour of the nearest opaque pixel (as in the third image, which I edited in Photoshop to fix the RGB channel) or at the very least just a different colour to black.

Is there are way of doing this? Sorry if I’m not being very clear.

    1. Screenshot of comp in AE.
    2. Separated RGB channel of PNG saved from AE.
    3. Separated RGB channel of PNG edited and saved from PS.

Further investigation reveals that shape layers are to blame. The images I’m saving out are created with shape layers only, and they always produce a black surrounding area in the RGB channel. Images created using solids etc. generally produce RGB channels as expected.

I have to use shape layers though, so any ideas of how to fix this would be appreciated!
