  • Setting a default boot up on a dual boot system

I recently set up my intel mac to be a dual boot setup. Both partitions are OSX Leopard. One is version 10.5.6 for FCP, and the other is 10.5.5 for Avid Media Composer. I created two partitions and used super duper to copy my FCP partition over. Then I used the OSX install disk to install the OS on the second partition, and install Media Composer.

My issue is, if I boot up the system and don’t hold down option, it defaults to the partition with Media Composer. I would like it to default to FCP as I use that more often. When I view it in the Disk Utility, it shows the Media Composer as partition one, and FCP as partition two. That would makes sense as to why it’s defaulting to the Media Composer partition. Is it possible to flip those two, so it defaults to FCP?

I believe (not 100%) that if you go to System Preferences > Start Up Disk… you should see icons for both operating systems – then just select the one you want.

In system preferences go to start up disk there you can set what partition it will try and boot from first.
