  • Set Varicam for B&W shooting

    Hi!

I’m writing from Italy,.. sorry for the mistakes…

We are going to use a Varicam27FE for an indipendent short film in Black and White.
We would like to shoot directly with the camera set in black and white to have a better lighting control during the shooting and avoid to transfom the images in B&W in post to save quality.

Anybody knows what to change in the menu to make a good B&W.
Or has anybody a “scene file” for shooting in B&W to upload from a card in the camera?

    Thank you very much!

    Ciao,

    Marco

    Marco,

You can shoot in black and white by simply turning the color down (and off). This is done with the matrix. Turn the numbers down all the way. Alternately you can shoot normal (in case you change your minds later) and turn the color down on your monitors.

    Hi John,

I have tested the Varicam putting all the matrix values to -31 (it’s the lowest), but it’s almost B&W. You can still see a bit of color…
Do I think I have to change other parameters too?

    Thank you,

    Marco
