I am having a problem with FCP and set up output levels.
It looks like the 1080 DVCPRO HD 60i set-up is adding Gamma??
I am toggling between Footage shot on my HVX.
I am editing the transferred P2 footage in P2
monitoring firewire out from 17″ PB.
Then I am running an S-vid out from the camera and comparing the footage shot on P2 and the output of FCP. The FCP footage is lighter?? Just a touch but enough to be a concern.
Any ideas what FCP is doing to the P2 footage??

Mike- I would first check the camera menu and see if the analog out (S-video) is set to 0 or 7.5 IRE. Remember that set-up is an analog only issue (and only in the United States). Digital black is 0. FCP is 0 black. 1080i HD is 0 black. Go to places where you have analog out and you will find the culprit. Using color bars with pluge is the best way to check your system starting by digitizing color bars from the camera and checking the black level each step of the way.
    Hope this helps.

The S-Video is an SD down-converted signal. You should not be using that for any comparisons of HD material.

Feed HD Component out of your FCP system to an HD monitor and then do the same with your camera.

In order to monitor the output of FCP properly you should avoid using a device such as the camera which can add 7.5 setup to the analog outputs.

The ideal method to monitor the output of any NLE system is to use a video card or other input output device such as the AJA IO which will output SDI and if you choose to monitor in analog these devices can also output component analog or composite but you must keep in mind 7.5 setup can be added.

FCP retains captured images in a digital domain so it does not add setup since setup is only a analog domain output issue.

If your going to edit in dvcpro HD and you desire to see what the HD recording really looks like then you have to avoid using a the camera as a “mickey mouse” output solution for viewing a downconverted image.

The problem you are having has nothing to do with FCP but instead your workflow.
