    Set one layer to another?

    Hi, I’ve just only recently started getting into AfterEffects but have been using Photoshop for sometime. Now there is a way in photoshop that you can ‘set’ one layer to another. For instance, if you make a gradient and then press ALT and click on the layer underneath in the layer window, it makes sure the gradient only fills that layer.

    I’m not sure if that made any sense, but I was wondering if there is a way to do this in AfterEffects also?

    I tihnk you’re alluding to a Track Matte. Look it up in the manual to see if this is what you want. Also, not wanting to sound uppish, but if you’re new to AE, then please use the COW’s Basic AE Forum.
