    Who can help me?

I have a problem with the “set challenges” effect that is incorporated in a template that I use.

The text that contains that effect should form a rectangular frame around the word/sentence. This is the case, but instead of this frame being a few pixels larger, it is a lot more pixels larger.
So here you see 2 text layers in the top 2 clippings. The first without layer 2, the 2nd with layer 2 and the effect. If I look in the pre-comp that contains this, the extra size is not too bad, but it is not what I want.

In another pre-comp of the template, there are also 2 text layers incorporated. 1 with and 1 without effect (“The race track”).
The top edge of the black filled frame that should be around this text should be about halfway between these 2 text layers.

In both cases the top text would have no background, which is now the case because the “set channels” effect from the other layer.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be due to and how to solve it?

    Thank you for your help.

Is Collapse Transformations checked on the precomp ? It looks to me like the black solid in the background of the “race track” example is larger than the comp it is in and as a result of collapse transformations it is appearing uncropped.

Simplest solution would be to mask the comp, but as you are asking about Set channels, then I’d need to see the settings on that effect to tell anything further.

    Hi Graham,

    Thanks for your response.

Here you can see how the “set channels” effect is set on the text layer.

I can indeed solve it simply by removing the “set channels” effect and placing a mask in the text layer. But then I still don’t understand why the “set channels” function doesn’t work as it should.
And I would like to know that.

To be honest, it’s really hard to tell what’s going on from the limited screen shots and your description.

Looking at the settings, it looks like you are trying to use effects to fill in the background, so that the text is all one layer.

But you’ve use Set Channels to achieve this, I would use Shift Channels instead. Set Channel is filling the dimensions of the precomp (at least that’s what’s happening when i try to recreate your set up). Shift Channels with Take Alpha From set to Full On should get you the result you’re after.
