Serious Issues with Vegas
For me, Sony Vegas is the Best Editing Software in the world, but I am having 2 main problems with the software:
MY PC: MSI P7N SLI Platinum, Quad Core, Nvidia nForce 750iSLI Chipset Based, 8G Memory, Windows Xp x64. I have Sony Vegas 7 and 8.
PROBLEMS:
1-Rendering Big Proyects: I cant seem to render any music videos (sd/hd as well,around 3-4 min) without the rendering process failing, with the message “An error occurred while creating the media file ‘Name of file’. This reason for the error cannot be determined” The only thing I can do is export the video in varius parts (2 or 3 depending lenght) and then re-import them in the timeline and the again, make a final render. (at the end of the day the video has been rendered twice. After many proyects I have made in Sony Vegas I think the problem is that the program cant handle such huge amounts of video information, plus transitions, effects, video tracks with diferent transfer modes, etc, I have reinstalled windows, and the software, surf alot of forums and nothing have changed, I even got the Quad Core processor with 8 Gigas (although I know Vegas 7, 8 for xp just recognize 4), and is all the same. If someone have the answer to this issue, Vegas IS the bes software ever!
2- Vegas 8, For some strange reason cant handle mpg files!? So When I worked with HDV Footage from my Cannon XH A1 (m2v), I could import it nor render in mpg2, CANT import nor low quality mpgs or high quality mpg2, useless… Dont have the MainConcept as the other previus versions. So I HAD to work with Vegas 7 because this version handles it perfectly, The only problem when rendering mpg2 in vegas 7 is that the files in HDV have the audio and video splitted, and the video is in MV2 format instead of MPG so I have to import that to Adobe Premier to RE-RENDER the MV2 and the audio to a final MPG2 FILE! The reason for this is that my client need the mpg2 file. I checked all the posible options even uncheking the option of separate video and audio streams and that problem continue.
I Hope someday this problems can be resolved, if you people know anything about the solution please let me know, thanks.

Make sure you have Vegas 8c.
I have 8c on both XP and Vista.
I have no problems editing practically any format specially MPG. With quad core I can even edit four streams of AVCHD.So, I am not sure what problems you have (maybe you need to explain the problems more carefully). But I am reporting that for me Vegas works with all formats you have mentioned.

ANSWERS:
1. Get Vegas Pro 8.1 and it will use all 8Gig of memory. (of course you will also need Vista 64) Also check that your processors are not overheating. It seems odd that small renders work but the full render doesn’t. You are either running out of memory or overheating.
2. Vegas can’t work with M2V files as you’ve seen. If the MainConcept codec is not showing up perhaps you need to re-install because it definitely ships with 8.0 and anything 7 can do 8 can do too.
